Tapio is the namesake of the younger brother of Ukko, Tapio is a (pronunciation: /ˈtapio/) gentle but unpredictable character, happy and always ready for adventure.
Much like Ukko and many other traditional Finnish names, is also a name of mythological Finnish spirit. In traditional folklore Tapio was the good of the forest, and the guardian of the animals of the forest. The forest was known as Tapiola, and it was his kingdom.
Tapio was also the god of hunters and hunting and master of the spirits of the woods. Tapio could bring the game to you – or take it away. You were a guest in his woods and hunted HIS animals. The forest was the home of Tapio and as such a sacred place. His animals were also sacred.
